SCRIGNO MAGICO Inviato Dicembre 8, 2006 Autore Segnala Inviato Dicembre 8, 2006 (modificato) GUIDA OFM Q01 Introduction This guide is meant to help beginning OFM managers get started and become familiar with the game, and to provide advanced users with a number a tips that may be useful to know. It is a lot of text, but please do not be intimidated by the size of the guide. You can use the search function to quickly find what you need to know, and/or only read certain chapters of this guide and the FAQ. If your questions are still left unanswered, you can always ask them on the forums. top ^ Q02 Creating and managing your account * Creating your account: When creating your account, it is important that you fill in correct data. Make sure your address and other personal information is correct. Incorrect personal data may be grounds for locking your account. Your information will be kept in strict confidence. If you are unsure if everything is filled in correctly: modify account. * Lost password: If you have forgotten your password, you can use your login name and e-mail address to retrieve your password. You can do this here. You can also get there through the welcome screen of OFM. Important: make sure your e-mail address is correct and you do not forget your login name! That way, you will always be able to retrieve your password should you ever forget what it was. top ^ Q03 Starting the game * Select League: When you begin the game, the first thing you will have to do is choose the league you wish to participate in. You have several countries to choose from. Make your selection by clicking on a country flag, then selecting one of the current leagues in progress. Thousands of leagues are going on simultaneously. If you are looking for a specific league that your friends play in, there is a search option in the left sidebar you can make use of. Tip: Select a league which is still in the preparation phase of the season. This gives you the opportunity to customise your team and prepare your strategies before the matches begin. If you enter a protected league, you will not be able to join the league right away, you will have to wait until the moderator approves you first. You can apply to join as leagues as you wish, you will automatically join the first one you are accepted into. If you are a premium ticket holder, you can also start a league of your own, by using the appropriate button in the left sidebar of the country selection screen. * Select Club: After you have chosen a league, you will receive two offers from clubs who are interested in your services. If you get no offers, you will need to select a different league. Select one of the offers, or if you do not like either one, you can try to get different offers by changing your preferred teams in your profile. When you accept an offer, you will become the manager of the chosen team immediately. top ^ Q04 Beginning your career as a manager After you have signed up with your team, you will arrive at your Control Centre. Here you can view information about the ranking of your team, the league you are playing in, your next opponent, your financial balance, and much more. As brand new manager, you should begin by addressing a few basic issues at the club, such as the following: 1. Check your team goal at the board: hThe first thing you should do when you are newly appointed to a club is to check what the board expects from you. You can do this by going to: Club -> The Board in the menu. 2. View your squad: Your squad is the most important part of your team. You can view it under: Team -> Your Squad. You can also put players up for sale on the transferlist here, using the 'sell' option for the appropriate player. If this option reads 'for sale' instead, then that player has already been put up for sale on the transferlist. 3. Put unnecessary players up for sale: A good way to make some extra money is to put your unnecessary (worst) players up for sale. A squad of 20 players is usually adequate. If you have more players, it may be worthwhile to sell them, using the player's indicated value. For that amount, you will certainly succeed in selling them. Sell your players using the option under: Team -> Your Squad. You will then have to wait until another club in your league or one from a foreign league buys that player. 4. Set up your sponsors: Every football club needs sponsors to make extra money. You can set up yours under: Club -> Sponsors. You can designate a sponsor to each side of your stadium. Visit this page regularly, to check if the sponsor contracts need to be renewed. The better your performance, the more sponsors will be available and the more money they will be willing to offer in exchange for an advertisement in your stadium. 5. Hire staff: Aside from your players, you will need additional staff to make your successful, such as doctors, trainers, and others. To hire staff, go to Club -> Staff. 6. View your next opponent: In your Control Centre, you can easily see who your next opponent will be. Click on the name of the club to view their squad. You can also check Statistics -> League Table to view the ranking of your opponent. 7. Decide formation, line-up and tactics: You have to give your players instructions for the next match. You can do this in the Team menu. At Formation, you will select the formation in which your players will go onto the field, 4-4-2, 4-3-3 or perhaps 3-5-2. Next, in the Line-up screen, you will decide which players will be playing in which positions. In the Tactics screen, you will indicate how your team should play the game, for example using long balls or focusing on counterattacks. 8. Buy players: Go to Players -> Players For Sale to view which of your players are for sale and which players have been put up for sale by other managers. Sometimes foreign players will appear here as well. You can buy a player by clicking "buy" in front of his name. If you have enough money available, he will be immediately added to your squad. Of course, there are a lot more possibilities in OFM, but the above steps are the basis for any successful managing career. When you have configured everything, you can wait until the next day for your results. The matches will be simulated during the night, unless the league is still in the preparation phase. top ^ Q05 Game options: Manager * Control Centre: You begin the game at the Control Centre. Here you can view information about your current club and league, such as the current and highest ranking of your team, the next match, the last 5 posts on your league forum and your financial status. There is also an overview of the most important headlines, and if any special events take place, such as receiving new messages, the assistant will notify you of this here. * Profile: Your manager profile consists of your account information and your history as a manager. Here you can see when your account was created and how many times you have logged in, for example. The amount of times you have resigned will also be tracked. There is an overview of your results, listing the amount of matches you have played, won, drew and lost, and the final scores of previously completed leages. Managers with a season ticket will be able to expand their profile with an image. This image must be a .jpg or .gif file located somewhere on the internet. No matter the original size of the file, it will be resized to a 100x100 pixel format. Season ticket holders will also have a trophy case in their profile containing their notable achievements. A silver cup represents an achieved team goal, a gold cup is awarded for a championship. At the bottom of your profile are a number of buttons. You can use these to turn on holiday mode when you go on a holiday, to view your season ticket status, and to edit your profile. * Resign: If you do not want to continue playing with your current team or in your current league, you have the option to resign from your team. Your club will then be set available to other managers. Although there is an option to resign, it is recommended not to use this unless absolutely necessary. First of all, you will be unable to select a new team to manage for 2 days after you resign. Also remember that the number of times that you have resigned will be tracked in your profile. Other managers may judge a high number of resignations as unsportsmanlike conduct, it is generally not appreciated. * Season Tickets: This is where you can view the advantages of season tickets and place your orders. Read more about seasn tickets in the Season Ticket FAQ and the Order FAQ. * Crews: The section that deals with everything concerning crews. Read more abot crews in the Crew FAQ. * Logout: When you are finished playing OFM, you can use this option to log out. Do not forget to do this at the end of your session! top ^ Q06 Game options: Results * Match Results: In the match results screen, you can view the last played matches. By default, you will see the match report of your own team, but you can click a different match to view its results as well. The report gives you an indication of how the match was played, showing the score, goals, injuries, and yellow and red cards during the match. For injured players, you can view the reason and duration of the injury by clicking on the player's name. You can also view the grades players received for their performance. * Scoreboard: Using the scoreboard, you can view the last played match from start to finish, minute by minute. The scoreboard is only available to season ticket holders. * Newspaper: The Online Football Reporter consists of the most important news of the previous week in your league. Match reports, previews, columns, transfer news and rumors, it can all be found in the newspaper. When managers join or leave the league, this will be shown in the newspaper as well. The league moderator has the option to place additional articles in the newspaper. * Team Events: Here you can find a chronological overview of important events that have taken place at the club. For example, hiring a new manager, offers made on players, and transfers that were conducted. * Transfers: Here you can view which players your club has bought and sold, and which transfers were done in the rest of the league. top ^ Q07 Game options: Team * Your Squad: This is the overview of your current squad. You can also put players on the transferlist from here. Every player on your team, along with their values and current status, can be found in this overview. * Formation: Here you decide which formation your team will play in during the next match. You can choose from a grand total of 12 different formations, from 3-2-5 to 6-3-1. Which formation you choose will be dependant on many factors, for example which tactics you want to use (offensive or defensive) and which players you have available. 6-3-1 This is the most defensive formation available. The advantage is that your defense is nigh-impenetrable. But the disadvantage is that your lone attacker is isolated, and unlikely to have much scoring opportunity. 5-3-2 This formatin is nicknamed 'The Berlin Wall', and is a very defensive formation. With five defenders, you will have a solid, balanced defense. Your two attackers may have trouble scoring goals, however. 4-5-1 If you lack decent attackers, this formation may be a good option to compensate and get those goals in. When your squad has some talented midfielders, have them Shoot on Sight, this can be a good weapon to help your attacker with scoring. 5-4-1 A defensive strategy that is well-suited to Counterattack tactics. A good way for a minor club to try and gain a draw against the bigger clubs in the league. 3-5-2 Nicknamed 'The German System'. This formation allows you to line up a lot of midfielders, an especially good tactic for managers who have lots of quality midfielders available. 4-4-2 This is the most commonly used formation in football today. A very balanced formation with four defenders, four midfielders and two attackers, it is neither a particularly offensive strategy, nor a particularly defensive one. The way in which the match will be played will depend on the abilities of the lined-up players. 4-3-3 An offensive formation which retains a good balance. This formation uses wingers, making the Play Wide tactic a good fit for this formation. 4-2-4 With this formation, you will be playing with the minimum amount of midfielders and lots of attackers. It is best used with a Long Ball tactic. 3-4-3 A very offensive formation that is difficult to play in, you will need talented players to make this formation effective. Just like in 4-3-3, it is a good idea to Play Wide in this formation. 3-3-4 A good formation to use when playing against a weak opponent. You will have lots of scoring opportunities, and three good defenders and midfielders should be enough to easily keep the weaker opponent at bay. 3-2-5 Using this formation, you will be going all-out on the offensive, but your team lacks balance. With as many as 5 attackers, you will have the advantage that you are likely to score often, but your opponent will likely do the same. 5-2-3 This formation will let you play from a solid defense with a reasonable offense, but your midfield is very weak. Using the Long Ball is a tactic which suits this formation well. * Line-up: After deciding on your formation, you can select the right people for the positions here. You can designate players to all 11 positions on the field, plus 7 benchwarmers. When you are finished, click the Confirm button. * Tactics: You decide your tactics for the next match here. You can choose how rough your players will act on the field (tip: it is probably best to set this to Normal or at most Hard for most matches), which overall match tactics you want to use, and more detailed tactics for the game. Use your knowledge of football and common sense when making your decisions, and feel free to try out a few things. Changing tactics often does not have an impact on your team's performance. Long Ball With this tactic, you skip the midfield when passing, and is therefore a good tactic to use when playing with a minimum of midfielders, such as the 4-2-4 and 3-2-5 formations. Passing Game This is the most common tactic, which can lead to good results for any formation equally well. With this tactic, your squad will attempt to build up an attack through the midfield instead of passing the ball directly to the attackers. Play Wide Using this tactic, your players try to spread out and make the field wide. An especially good tactic for the 3-4-3 and 4-3-3 formations, because these formations make use of designated wingers. Counterattack Waiting for a good opportunity to counterattack is the most austere way of playing. Using this tactic reduces your chances of scoring dramatically, but your opponents will have much more trouble breaking through your defense, as well. Shoot on Sight The Shoot on Sight tactic is good to use along with a defensive formation which has lots of midfielders, such as 4-5-1. Using this, your midfielders will use every opportunity they get to attempt a goal shot. * Secret Training: When you have your team train behind closed doors, other managers in your league will not be able to view your tactics and line-up for the next match, nor whether or not you are going on a training camp. You can only perform a limited amount of secret trainings every season. Tip: use a secret training before you use a training camp. * Training Camp: With a training camp, you can give your players extra motivation for the next match, increasing their chances of winning. The only down sides of a training camp are that they cost money and that there is a limited amount of times you can use one each season. If you do not want your opponents to see you are using a training camp against them, use a secret training before using a training camp. top ^ Q08 Game options: Players * Player Grades: This is an overview of how your players performed in the matches they played in. Every grade the players received during matches will be shown here, as well as their average grade. * Offers: In the Offers screen, you can see: 1) The offers other managers have made for your players. 2) The offers you have made for players of other teams. When you receive an offer for one of your players from another manager, you have the choice to accept or reject the offer. If you accept the offer, the player will immediately leave your squad and transfer to his new team. If you refuse, you will have to provide a reason for the refusal. If you want to buy a player from another team and have made an offer, you will see the offer here. You can wait until the other manager responds to the offer, or you have the option to withdraw your offer. You can only bid on players within your own league, and only those from teams controlled by a human manager. You can make an offer by going to the Manager List or League Table, selecting a team, and clicking on "Buy" in front of the player you wish to buy. You cannot bid more than the amount of money you currently have available. You can make more than one offer at a time, but remember that you can only perform one transfer a week between your team and any other team. You should also be careful your balance does not fall into the negative, which can happen when more than one team accepts one of your offers at the same time. If this happens, a random player will leave your squad because of their uncertain future, and you will only receive a minimal fee in return. A player will leave your squad every week for as long as your balance remains negative. * Scout: You can scout players in all of Europe. When you have scouted a player, he will be put on the transferlist and you will be able to buy him. To be able to scout, you first need to hire a Scout as part of your staff. You also need to be a season ticket holder to be able to use this option. * Training: This is where you select players for extra individual training. Every player you select for individual training cannot be in the starting line-up of the next match. For every field position (attack, midfield, defense, goal), you need a seperate trainer, all of which can be hired on the staff page. * Players For Sale: Here you can view the current transferlist, to see all the players currently for sale in your league. Players from foreign countries occasionally appear here as well. You can buy any player on the transferlist by clicking on "Buy" in front of the player's name. Providing you have the required funds, the player will be immediately transferred to your squad and can already be lined up for the upcoming match. top ^ Q09 Game options: Club o The Board: The board judges your performance as a manager and gives you a few tips. The team goal you have been assigned is the most important information the board will give you. o Finance: Here you can find an overview of your team's financial status. Your current balance and the breakdown of your income and expenses for the next week are shown here. You can influence your revenues by contracting sponsors and expanding your stadium. o Medical Staff: Doctors can help your players heal from injuries more quickly. Especially if you regularly use a hard or extreme style of play, it can be useful to hire one or more doctors to keep your sickbay from getting overcrowded. You can hire doctors on the staff page. o Staff: This is where you can hire staff members for the club. If you fire a staff member, you will have to give them a year's worth of wages. Which staff members are available and what their abilities are is noted by the assistant on the bottom of the screen. o Sponsors: You can contract up to four sponsors for commercials around the field. The amount of available contracts and the amounts the sponsors are willing to pay are dependant on your team's performance. When you select a free side of your stadium, there will be an overview of the available contracts along with the duration and amount offered for the contract. The contract is only valid for home matches. Note: if you sign a contract for 3 weeks, then you wll receive the noted amount 3 times. o Stadium: Season ticket holders have the option to expand their stadium, giving their team a greater home advantage and a higher income. As the costs are fairly low, it will prove to be an investment which will end up paying for itself. Several sections of the stadium can be improved upon, such as pitch quality, new stadium lights, pitch temperature control, a food cart and more seats for the audience. You can also rename your stadium to any name of your choosing. top ^ Q10 Game options: Statistics o League Table: Here you can view the current league standings. You can also see the squads of the other teams in your league that have a human manager, by clicking on the name of the team. From there, you can make an offer on their players by clicking the "buy" option of a player you are interested in. o Cup Progress: View the progress of the cup tournament here. You can see whether your team is still in the Cup and which round it is currently in. Note: not all leagues have a Cup. o Season Schedule: This is an overview of all matches that have been and will be played this season. You can view the schedules of the other teams as well, by clicking on a team name in the sidebar. o Fixtures: An overview of the matches scheduled for next week. You can check whether it will be league or Cup matches, and which referees have been assigned to the various matches. top ^ Q11 Rankings and awards There are a number of rankings where you can compare your performance with the other managers in OFM. o Manager Top-100: The Manager Top-100 is the most prestigious ranking. Your position in this ranking will also be shown in your profile. You must be a season ticket holder to be entered into the rankings. This ranking adds all manager points you have accumulated together, so it is not easy to reach the top! Your points will be entered into the rankings with a delay of one day. You can reach the Manager Top-100 in the menu under: Statistics -> Rankings -> Manager Top-100. o Records: Aside from the overall rankings, you can also stand out because of other notable achievements. On the Records page, a number of noteworthy current records is listed. For example, the manager with the most experience, the best players in currently running leags, and the most championships won. Note that the records are only valid for that particular moment. You can find the records in the menu under: Statistics -> Rankings -> Records. o Team Rankings: Your performance with a certain team can also be viewed in comparison to others who have played that team. Click on a team name in your history for this overview. You can find your history in your profile, in the menu under: Manager -> Profile. top ^ Q12 Communication with other managers OFM has several ways to communicate with other managers. An overview of the various options that are available to you: o League forum: Every league has its own forum. You can visit it from your ConTrol Centre or through the forum list, which you can find under: Community -> Forums. This forum is accessible to anyone participating in the league. o General forums: OFM has forums about a number of different subjects, so you can ask questions, share your thoughts on future developments, discuss current events, or simply say what you need to get off your chest. For an overview of the available forums, look in the menu under: Community -> Forums. o Chat: For all urgent questions you need answered right away, or just to chat with the managers currently present. Community -> Chat. o Messages: Here you can send messages (also called PMs, "Personal/Private Messages") to any manager participating in OFM. Community -> Messages. Your inbox has a limited amount of space to store messages, so be sure to clean it regularly. When you have a new message, this will be reported by the assistant in your Control Centre. o Manager List: In the manager list, you can see which managers are participating in your league, and have the option to send them an Event. Community -> Manager List o Search Manager: When you are looking for a certain manager, you can find his/her profile using this option. You can search for a login name as well as a manager name. Community -> Search Manager. top ^ Q13 About the OFM Engine The OFM engine calculates the results of every match every night. The simulations begin around midnight GMT and end a few hours later. The reason matches are played at night and not during the day is that simulating matches takes a lot of computing power, and not too many managers can be online during that time for it to proceed smoothly. Of course you would like to know how the simulation works, exactly. But if we provided you with the exact calculations, OFM would not be as much fun anymore. Not to mention that the simulation is so complex that it cannot be easily explained. Many factors have to be taken into account, such as tactics, team strength, historic results, the line-up, motivation, luck, etcetera. Without giving away everything, here are a few things that may be useful to know: 1. Luck is always a possibility in the system. A low-profile club always has a chance against a high-profile one, regardless of the difference in team strength. This chance may be small, but just like in real football, it is possible for David to defeat Goliath. 2. A team has a (considerable) advantage in home matches. 3. If a manager neglects to line up a goalkeeper, it will have a large influence on the calculated strength of your team. 4. You can switch tactics or formation freely between matches, but if you are getting good results with a formation, it may be a good idea to use it often. 5. The attacking ability of attackers is more significant than the attacking ability of midfielders. The same goes for defenders and their defensive ability. For example, if a midfielder has a rating of ATT: 90, DEF: 90, OVR: 90 and an attacker ATT: 90, DEF: 0, OVR: 45, that does not make the attacker a weaker player than the midfielder. Regardless of the overall ability of midfielders, it may be useful to know that if you line up a midfielder as an attacker or defender, this only lowers their regular calculated value by a small amount. 6. Players always perform best when they play in their preferred position. 7. A training camp increases your team's motivation 100%, providing an enormous boost to the chance for victory. But you can never be 100% certain you will win, as the opponent can always get lucky, or may simply have a better team. =============================================================================== FAQ OFM Q01 How does it work? OFM is an online Internet management game in which you virtually manage and control your favourite football team. Not just against computer-controlled opponents, but against friends, family, or other players from all over the world! You can log in for a few minutes on a daily basis to prepare your squad for the next match. The matches will then be simulated by our engine, which creates a virtual world in which the football matches are played. This method makes OFM one of the most realistic online football managers ever created! Your goal is to get the best possible results out of your team and prove yourself to be a better and more efficient manager than the other online managers, by winning a championship or accomplishing a certain goal preset by your team's board of directors. top ^ Q02 Do I have to log in EVERY DAY? No, that is not necessary. You can play OFM (and win!) even without logging in every single day. Every manager only needs to manage their team once every three days to not run any risk of being fired from the team for inactivity. However, matches are played every day, so you do risk being unable to reconfigure your team line-up after a player is injured or suspended. top ^ Q03 If I get fired, is my account lost? Your account will never be deleted for this reason. In this game, just like in real life, a manager is not bound to a particular team forever. If you are fired, you can select another league to participate in and another club to manage. top ^ Q04 Which team will I get? You have the option to specify two preferred teams in your profile. If these teams are available, and if they are interested in your services, they will offer you a contract. If not, you will likely receive other offers that may interest you. Please do not send any e-mails such as 'I wanna play as Manchester United' or 'I am a true Ajax fan, give me Ajax'. Everybody wants the top teams and only few can have them, this is just something you will have to accept. You can, however, improve your chances by becoming a ticket holder, so you will have first choice in team selection. top ^ Q05 Are there any downloads required to play this game? OFM is an online Internet management game, so no downloads are required. You will be able to play immediately after you have created and activated your account! top ^ Q06 Can I have more than one account? No, this is not allowed. We regularly check our database for players who are in violation of our terms of service. Managing multiple accounts is strictly forbidden, and if it is discovered that you are in violation of this rule, ALL of your accounts will be immediately and permanently deleted. An exception is made for subaccounts, a feature that OFM ticket holders can make use of. You can find more information about this in the Season Ticket FAQ. top ^ Q07 When and how often are the matches played? Matches are played once every night, starting at midnight GMT. top ^ Q08 Where can I send in suggestions for improvement? Please post your questions, bug reports, comments and suggestions on the various forums meant for such matters. top ^ Q09 I am trying to create an account or log into my existing one, but I keep returning to the login screen. What is wrong? Your computer does not have cookies enabled. Please enable cookies in your browser and try again. top ^ Q10 What happens at the end of a season? All teams will be reset and your results will be added to your manager profile. After this, your contract will expire and you will be able to select another club to manage in the next season. Do NOT resign from your team, or no manager points will be awarded. After the last match, the final results will be displayed for one more day, after which the league will be reset and you will have the option to select a new team. top ^ Q11 Why is the league reset after the end of the season? Primarily to maintain the realism of the game. The reset enables you to begin each season with the full squad of original players. All the players that are part of your chosen team in real life and their qualities will be available to you. If multiple seasons were to be played back-to-back without a reset, then this would not be the case. Furthermore, after each season manager points are awarded to the best managers in the league. All managers have to have the same starting position at the beginning of each season so no one will have an unfair advantage or disadvantage. top ^ Q12 I want to keep playing my team and keep my players. Is this possible? No, this is not possible. OFM was designed as a one season game. After the season has ended, you can select a new team or join another league. That way, you will be able to play in many different leagues (for example England, Spain, Germany and Italy). top ^ Q13 What are manager points? Every time you finish a season with your team, and that team has performed well (achieved their team goal), you will be awarded manager points, visible in your manager profile, which will determine your overall OFM ranking. The points are calculated as follows: Championship = +50 points Goal achieved = +50 points +10 Points for every position you manage to finish above your team's goal. Your point total is also dependant on the amount of points you have personally earned with your team. If you only played your team for half the season, you will only receive half the normal amount of manager points. Finally, the amount of points will be divided depending on the size of the league. A league with 20 teams will receive 100% of the points, a league with 18 teams 90%, etc. top ^ Q14 Someone is cheating! What should I do? Report this to your league moderator immediately. If you are the moderator yourself, post a message about the incident on the Cheater Reports forum. Clearly note the identity of the offender and supply a list of suspicious transfers or other proof. The staff will investigate the matter and, if need be, punish the offender. (Do not send messages directly to the staff about this, they will be ignored!) top ^ Q15 I want to start a new league, how can I do that? Please use the league request form. However, you must be a premium ticket holder to use this feature! top ^ Q16 How can I link to OFM on my web site? If you have a website and want to link to OFM, you can use one of the following banners: (Qui c'erano i banners, ne metto uno) To use these banners, right-click on them and from the drop down menu select 'Save Picture As...' to store it somewhere on your local hard drive. Then upload the banner to your website. If you do not want to use a banner, a text link to OFM would of course be fine as well. top ^ Q17 When are there going to be some good defenders on the transferlist? Which players appear on the transferlist is decided by the foreign teams that do not play in your league. They decide this on their own, based on supply and demand, taking the financial situation of the foreign clubs into account. The OFM Staff or league moderator cannot influence these decisions, so there is no point in contacting them about this. top ^ Q18 I want to sack the assistant, why is that not possible? The assistant is very important for the club's daily activities. He manages your team when you are away, and gives you useful advice. The board also seems very determined to keep him employed. They do not say why, but rumour has it that his wife has an affair with the chairman of your club... top ^ Q19 What can you do with the stadium option? You can give your stadium a name, and spend money to improve it. These costs depend on the size of your club and the type of improvement. You can improve the stadium in various ways. For example, you could expand your stadium capacity, add more and better training fields, or smooth out the pitch of the field. Some options increase your income, for example because you are able to sell more tickets because of them. Other improvements raise the performance of your team when playing at home, for example because of smoother pitch or a better atmosphere in the stadium. The stadium option is only available to season ticket holders. top ^ Q20 What are the rules and terms that I must follow when I play OFM? Rules and Terms of Service top ^ Q21 What happens when you leave a certain position in your line-up blank? In that case, your assistant will attempt to line up an available player for you. In this is not possible, and no players are available to take the empty position, a player from your youth team will fill in this blank spot, to guarantee that your team will never start a match with less than 11 players. Youth team players are generally much weaker however, and their performance will not be reported in the match summary. top ^ Q22 How does the Scout option work? You can send out the scout to find players that may be of interest to you. The scout will search out players based on the criteria you supply him with. For example, you can choose to have him search for an Attacker with an attack skill between 70 and 80 with a maximum value of 12 million. It will take the scout one game week to complete his search. If the search was successful, the player that was discovered will be put on the transferlist. If you decide not to buy the player, other clubs in the league will have the opportunity to sign him on to their team. The scout option is only available to season ticket holders. top ^ Q23 I want to help update a league, or supply a new one. Can I do that? If you want to help with creating new leagues or updating existing ones, this would be greatly appreciated, providing it is a needed addition/update. You can do so by collecting the correct player and team data of a certain league and giving them proper ratings. Please use the following Excel sheet to fill out the information: templateA.xls Send the completely filled out file to a staff member responsible for league updates: check the News & Updates forum to find out who currently takes care of this. Do ask in advance if the addition/update is needed at all, it would be a shame if you did all that work for nothing. If the ratings are judged to be okay, and the league is accepted (implemented in the game), you will be rewarded with a free season ticket. top ^ Q24 Why does it say my sponsors are n/a in my financial statement? This is because sponsors only pay you when your team plays at home. When you are playing away the sponsors show as being n/a, meaning you will not receive any money from them this week. top ^ Q25 Will OFM be available in other languages? OFM originally started with a Dutch version: www.onlinesoccermanager.nl A Chinese version is also available: www.onlinesoccermanager.cn top ^ Q26 One of my players was injured, but I can line him up as normal for the next match. How is this possible? You were lucky. That player apparently only had a mild injury, and is in good enough condition to be in the starting line-up again for the next match. top ^ Q27 What does the commercial manager do? The commercial manager is a staff member who can only be hired by season ticket holders. You can instruct the commercial manager to try and get more money from your sponsors. This action takes one game week. The result will be presented to you, and if you received an offer, you will have the option to accept or reject it. If you reject the offer, you will still have spent one of the commercial manager's actions, and you only have 2 per season. You may have reason to reject an offer if the sponsor demands extra conditions for supplying you with additional funds. top ^ Q28 I want an image in front of my name. How do I do that? First of all, you must be a season ticket holder, only they can put an image in front of their name. Next, search for a nice image on the internet or upload one to the internet yourself. When you have found an image, remember the URL. (e.g.: http://www.images.com/nice.jpg) Select the Profile option from the Manager menu, and click on the Edit My Profile button. Enter the URL in the box next to "Image URL". After that, click the Confirm button. Tip: To find out the URL of the image, right-click the image and select Properties. The URL of the image will be displayed there. top ^ Q29 The ads are blocking the menu, what can I do about that? Advertisements (banners) might sometimes be displayed in front of the menu. There are two things you can do to solve this: 1. Become a season ticket holder: you will no longer be bothered by ads at all. 2. Download the latest browser software. (Internet Explorer) Click here for more information about this problem. top ^ Q30 Other people are playing OFM using the same computer I use to play OFM. Is this allowed? Multiple people playing the game using the same computer is allowed, because we understand that sometimes family members, friends or acquaintances want to play OFM using a single PC. Do take careful note of the following: - enter your real name and personal data in your profile, to prevent suspicion - do not log in right after one another, but try to log in during different parts of the day than your brother(s)/sister(s) - if you play in the same league, do not help eachother. Suspicious transfers are often reported and may be grounds for being fired/locked - it would be best to become season ticket holders top ^ Q31 How does the scoreboard work? The scoreboard provides an accurate representation of the match progression, including goals, injuries, yellow cards and red cards. The scoreboard is listed under Results --> Scoreboard in the menu. To start the scoreboard, click on the "Start Match" button on the left. The scoreboard is not a live report, it provides a replay of the match that was played last night. You can choose to go directly to the scoreboard upon logging in to experience the excitement of the match, which is especially fun when playing against friends, family or colleagues. The OFM scoreboard is only available to season ticket holders. top ^ Q32 I am having trouble with Mozilla, Opera, or another browser. How do I solve this? If you are using Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, or another exotic browser, problems may occur with the display of certain parts of Online Football Manager. The reason for this is that the site was created and optimised for viewing in Internet Explorer and Firefox. No other browsers are supported. Optimising the site for other platforms takes a lot of time and money, when only a small part (less than 2%) of our users would benefit from this. Firefox with Google Toolbar Download Microsoft Internet Explorer top ^ Q33 Can I change my manager name? No, that is not possible. To make it more difficult for cheaters to hide their identities by constantly changing their manager name, we have made it impossible to do so. No exceptions can be made to this rule, as it is a technical impossibility. top ^ Q34 Can I create an account for someone else? No, absolutely not. You may assist someone if he/she is having problems creating an account, but it is not allowed to create an account for someone else. If you do this, this will interpreted as the creation of multiple accounts, thus you risk all your accounts being locked. top ^ Q35 The site is slow sometimes, can I do anything about that? To make certain you are using this option, using Internet Explorer, go to Tools --> Internet Options in the menu and click on the Advanced tab. Check the option "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" and click OK. Close all your browser windows and restart Internet Explorer. After some time, you should begin to notice a speed improvement. top ^ Q36 I am playing OFM together with my 8 brothers, 5 sisters and 3 cousins from the same PC. Is there a risk of my account getting locked? Yes, if you are logging in regularly with multiple people from a single computer, you do run a certain risk. We will keep an eye on those accounts, and if anything stands out which may be considered cheating, all of the accounts will be permanently locked. This will also happen if we have reason to believe more than one of the accounts belongs to the same person. Apologies after the fact that you had created an account for your second cousin twice removed will most likely be ignored. Unfortunately this kind of thing happens rather often, there is no way we can conduct an individual investigation of every single case of suspected cheating. Remember this, and please play fairly, using only one account. Cita
